Melissa Layman

Deputy Director

Melissa Layman is the Deputy Director of Research Development Services.  She manages the department, and coordinates all operational activity.  She works closely with the Dean for Research on the strategic management of sponsored awards at GUMC. In her capacity, she is a subject matter expert on research administration, changes to federal policies and proposal development.  Prior to this position, Melissa directed the Lombardi Grants Office where she managed the proposal development team for the Lombardi Cancer Center.  Melissa is a graduate of Goucher College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and Johns Hopkins University, where she received a Master of Business Administration.  She also holds the following certificates from the Research Administrators Certification Council: Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA), and Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA).
