Funding Opportunities

All Federal applications must be submitted in response to a funding opportunity announcement (FOA). Use Parent Announcements for “unsolicited” or “investigator-initiated” applications. Requests for Application (RFAs) are used by HHS and other federal funding agencies to announce special funding opportunities.  Links to opportunity lists for some federal agencies are provided below.

National Institutes of Health - weekly funding opportunities and notices

Department Of Defense - program announcements and forms

US Department of Education - find programs by eligibility

Pivot (formerly Community of Science, COS) is a comprehensive database of funding opportunities from many government and private sources. It includes funding opportunities from all disciplines including arts, humanities, health and medicine, social sciences, and sciences. Users can conduct searches for funding opportunities accross a broad range of sponsors.  Georgetown University has a site license for Pivot and Georgetown faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students can create accounts to save searches and receive funding alerts. The Pivot Quick Start Guide details how to create an account and initiate advanced searches.

In addition to Pivot, the Georgetown Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations can assist investigators in exploring funding opportunities from corporations and private foundations with such services as research on foundations, application preparation and review and submission to the sponsor.

Electronic Submission

Many sponsors now accept or require electronic proposal submissions. Please review sponsor guidelines and speak to the proposal specialist (PS) for your department to determine if your application can/should be submitted electronically. Internal review and approval by the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) is required for all proposals and many that are submitted electronically must be received from the sponsor from the Authorized Organizational Official (AOR) in OSR. Work with your Research Development Services (RDS) proposal specialist (PS) to ensure that all requirements and deadlines are met to ensure successful proposal submission.
